Might need new computer - help?

My laptop is about to die, will try this fix but it feels a bit risky...

Does anyone have any recs/anti-recs for netbooks? Not too expensive, not a Mac, light and not the slowest hardware around. If you have images of the keyboard, this is also much appreciated

Okay, I don't really have recs or antirecs, it all depends on what you want, but I think you're on the right track if you don't get a Mac. For functionality they're just not worth the money they cost. They're good, but you know, you get the same things with a PC.

HP tends to be overpriced and they're also pushing the warranty period down to one year from the EU-agreed-upon 2 years (if you're even in the EU), so avoid that too. I have no complaints of my mini-Acer Aspire One which I bought years ago. If you're a gamer, pay attention to the graphic card info; good gaming minis are out there, but they're rare. You'll also want one with considerable hard disk space - no less than 160GB at least, because the minicomputer almost always becomes your main computer, just because it's the one you always have with you. This is probably not very helpful, but, you know. Just check for the features you want and go with the cheapest one that has them.

thanks for the input! It seems as if I may still sneak in juuuust before the warranty runs out, but I might have to replace it anyway in a shortish time.

have looked at Acers before and they look nice, I just need to fondle on a bit more. Thanks for the info about HP too, that sounds really unpleasant (am in the EU. Likes long warranties)
