That the unpublished chapters might be pulled is a scary thought. I'm in the same situation as you - waiting that long to buy the official English releases (which I do - got vol. 3 this weekend!) would be torture on my nerves.
And the manga is so much better, I agree with you. I've seen both seasons of the anime, and I liked the end of first season quite well (even if they never did the circus arc, which is my favorite). Because of how FUNimation released the episodes on their site, I ended up watching all of second season before I'd seen even half of first season, and, while the story is very tightly plotted...it left me feeling cheated. The same way I felt cheated at Donna's fate in Doctor Who. It didn't need to go where it did in the last few episodes.
I'll still buy it anyway, most likely, because the animation quality is good and the voice acting is amazing, and the Phantomhive household is its usual fun self (even if the Trancys are...yeah).
