waiting for 1337

Sitting in the karaoke room at Närcon, waiting for the visitors to come in and everything to start. 27 minutes to go and counting!
We, ahem, almost overslept our stop with the train, but got off with the hundred (almost) bags of stuff. But then the tech co-operated very nicely and the room we have is also pretty neat, so we're finished! With time left, le gasp!
So I thought I'd take the time to blog about the latest reading I've done... really, didn't think it would be this hard to just find the time to write about books.
We tend to get preview book at work, but unfortunately, most of them aren't part one. Whatever, thought I, since most thriller series are made to jump into anywhere you want. So, when we got three of Dexter is Delicious I decided to give the series a try. It was morbid fun, if somewhat confusing, though the plot was incredibly stupid. Goth cannibals in Florida? Really? And the gateway drug to joining exclusive super-hip goth clubs (in Florida - isn't that an oxymoron?) that are a front for cannibals is, wait for it... TWILIGHT! Yeeeaah, no don't think so. But Dexter himself was pretty funny, and the language not too bad.
Anyway, needed something to read on the flight to England, so I bought the omnibus with Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter and Dexter in the Dark a few days later.
These books were much better. Plot not quite as stupid, the characters slowly growing into themselves and Dexter hilariously murderous.
I can see how they became popular, and I've pulled down the beginning of the TV series. Don't think I'll stick too long with that one though, since Wiki means that it humanizes Dexter a lot. I actually like to read about a mostly asexual psychopathic character, I don't need him to become involved in love triangles and crap... Though the parts where they find the bodies he's dumped seem interesting, so maybe I'll stick around until then.
Dexter get's a "totally okay vacation read", especially the omnibus. I'll see if I can get my hands on book four on the cheap somewhere, or borrow it
And now it's con time, yay!
